I have ‘beated around the bush’ on where I stand on virtual worlds. I agree that they provide a helpful place for kids to learn and there are specific programs which show kids how to manage their own shop or to help kids manage their illness which is shown here in this article. Though I also believe that it’s necessary for children to explore their world around them physically and not be relying on this fake lifestyle as a true way of living and seeing life. So I agree in some areas and disagree in others
An article

Children should not be using the virtual world instead of playing games on the computer it would be a great idea to actually go out and get a real soccer ball to play. This link is an article which is an interview with a virtual world activist it proves that it provides children with a wonderful environment I agree though; I also believe it should not be the basis of children understands of how the world works. It might show them ways on how things work but I think that this should come through practice of living not on a computer. What do you think?

My last posts will be about the virtual world i have a great interest in this area as i dont believe that it is a positive tool whihc students should use. With further reading on virtual world idea I believe that they are just way for those companies to create money. It helps people to become less interactive with real people as they are always are working online. I believe that life is meant to be lived , I reckon that if people spent the money on learning how to make something or a holiday overseas and explore the world they would become more rounded person instead of living a fake superficial life. Yes the virtual world provides an outlet for those that are disabled who cant get out and a provides them foe way for them to live, but us creates a fake representation of who they are as a person it helps them to deny themselves and who they are to create a fake and somewhat ‘happy’ life when they need to accept themselves. I hope that people will not fall into this unsatisfactory way of life and that they might get out , live and accept who they are as life is about living
From wikipedia it states my point
Research
There is an ever increasing amount of people using virtual worlds at a rate of 15% every month and does not appear to be stopping or slowing down anytime soon. (Hof, 2006d; Gartner, 2007 cited by Bray and Konsynski 2007). This is the same with research being carried out in virtual worlds. It is an ever increasing way for business and governments to use the resources to gather and collate information for their use. Research for information systems purposes is being carried out in virtual worlds for the look in open sourcing, providing tools without the need for sponsorship of corporate businesses. It provides a look into the virtual world creation and how it is able to spread itself around the internet for different people from different countries to interact and provide information. It provides an insight how people find the information and how that information is being used by different people. Governments are also beginning to interact in virtual worlds and are a discussion point for some in terms of governance and law. Virtual world is neither public nor private owned. It is the people interacting in it that make the world. Governments research into the use of virtual worlds by people as some have virtual property, amounting to a second life online in another world. This is where governments have to look into if t is viable or even feasible for them to tax those with a second life to govern them with taxes and laws.
My teacher uses LAMS !!!

Wow today I found out that my teacher used Lams for his class. Each student has their own log-in which they use to open up forums. He gets the students to read a novel of their choice and then a forum is created about the book they read they have to write about the book, who the author is, and what the story is about ect. Then other students are to comment and add additional information or add a question or comment about the novel. This provides the students with great skills in how to respond in an online discussion and gives them a sense of achievement when they see their name with their postings which they have done.

My First computer lesson on prac
Posted on May 7th, 2008 at 3:12 am by emmalou and
Today I did my first computer lesson on prac. My teacher informed me about a online task which you can send a link to the students email for them to complete. It was an interactive slideshow which they needed to complete it was called ‘Take a Vote’; it was from a website that is available to teachers and provided different lessons from each KLA. This one was obviously from the HSIE syllabus as it is to do with Government. The tasks consisted of yes / no responses plus short answer questions .It is similar to the task that we have to do for our assignment I got the class to work through the presentation and then projected the last page upon the inter-write which I then used it for a focused discussion on their findings on the task set. I found that it is truthful that computers provide students with an opportunity to work in pairs and provide relational learning skills for them as they learn how to work co-operatively. The lesson ran well, the problems though I did find was for the fast finishers and activity needs to be set so they can keep on working on the computers. Overall I found they had learnt a lot through this program and understood what voting was within a short amount of time (15-20 mins)
Inter-Write

On my second day at prac my teacher taught me how to use a cheaper version of smartboard.I had never used one before and found that it wa a fantastic way to present information to kids. All the technology needed within the classroom i believe that a smartboard or an inter-write would be highly useful within the classroom setting .Though one of the other students doing prac agreed in saying that they are good but when there is a powersurge and all your lessons are on the smart board it is hard to continue with the class lesson due to the loss of power.Therfore as a teacher other things need to be up your sleeve , But the interwrite was fun and the children enjoyed the lesson i did using it.
